Poe and alliteration

I love how Poe uses alliteration in his poetry. In the Raven it draws me more into the poem and it highlights more important or significant lines in this and other poems. I was discussing this with my boyfriend and he said it was more annoying and too much in word conosant repetition. I wanted to know what other people thought about the way Poe composes his poems, especially with the way he uses alliteration.

Nicole,

I agree with you. I like Poe's use of alliteration and other poetic devices in his poems. His words just roll so easily off the tongue. I think they are meant for being read aloud. Reading them silently seems somehow like cheating- you get the right answers but not the understanding or sense of achievement.

I love Poe's use of alliteration as a rule. I have a hard time trying to "get" a lot of his work, but that is what makes it so interesting. What is he saying here? Oh, that.

I enjoyed looking at The Raven. I got a bit of a new take on it.

I definitely agree here. The way a poet or author uses or doesn't use alliteration really changes the way you look at a piece of writing. If Poe hadn't used alliteration and imagery the way that he did, The Raven would not have come to life as it did for me when I read it aloud.
